Learn about the history of Orscheln Products and how Orscheln became a leading provider of motion control solutions. Back in 1938, it all started with 3 Orscheln brothers – Ed, William, and Al Orscheln. Ed and William established a trucking business together and Al was responsible for maintenance on their vehicles. One day when a trucking driver was complaining about the parking brake on a vehicle, Al decided to take some time to figure out the correct solution to the problem – and the “overcenter” parking brake was developed. Patented a year later, this brake was first only installed on the family’s delivery trucks. In 1946, the brothers founded the Orscheln Brake Lever Manufacturing Company to build the brake system for sale to others. Today, Orscheln Products is still a family company, run by descendants of the 3 Orscheln brothers. And Orscheln Products’ attitude has always been to take time to figure out the correct solution to any problem.
