Our Offerings
Over the course of 75+ years, as our capabilities have expanded, Orscheln’s family of product lines has grown to include 7 main offerings. These primary offerings include:
1. Park Brake Systems
Orscheln Products’ over-center style Park Brake Levers and Foot Pedal Levers have been the industry standard for over 70 years. We have various mounting configurations, handle length, locking, and light switch options.
A standard “Overcenter” Hand Lever or Foot Pedal lever is the best solution for most applications. However, where specific mounting or other custom features are required, we can design a lever to meet your particular needs.
Orscheln park brake cables are a premium design. Our fully jacketed conduit and plastic coated strand provide corrosion and abrasion protection while improving cable efficiency. These brake cable seals keep lubricant in and dirt and water out.
We also offer cable hardware to connect your cable to any standard parking brake system, including equalizers for 2-brake systems.
2. Shift by Wire
Our electronic shift actuator systems (ESAS) can interface with a broad range of transmissions and Electronic TCMs where mechanical actuation or electronic shift signal is required. Our ESAS provide SAE J1939 CAN compliant communication for optimal operation and standardized implementation.
Likewise, our Actuator is directly connected to the CAN bus, eliminating direct wiring between the actuator and shift selector. In tandem with its versatile installation capabilities, this makes our system effective at supporting a wider variety of vehicle platforms. Allowance for direct and/or remote mounting also makes installation and maintenance simpler.
With customizable shift positions for various applications, our Shift-X-Wire systems provide leaps and bounds improvements in versatility, efficacy, and operational reliability.
3. Control Cables
Orscheln Products offers a wide range of standard cable products, e.g., Push-Pull, T-Handle, Control Head, Valve Control, Throttle, and Tension.
Our major innovations focus on reliability and security. Specialized rod and sleeve seals protect against moisture egression while keeping strand lubricant inside cable and dirt/water out. Additionally, a thick wall polymer jacket is extruded onto the cable casing to protect against water, dirt, and abrasion. You can be confident in the dependability and durability of your Orscheln brand control cables.
Orscheln has a network of over 100 distributor cable assemblers, the Felsted Assembled Systems Technology distributors, worldwide that can custom make control cables and other products. These F.A.S.T distributors operate in 25 countries across North America, Europe, and Asia.
4. Dipsticks (Fluid Level Indicators)
Our Twist2Lock™ F1, F2, F3, and F4 designs offer OEMs and users a wide selection of fluid check, check/fill or fill options.
A large inventory of tube materials and configurations are available to handle the wide range of temperatures and routings needed to support many different kinds of engine, transmission, and other fluid system operating environments.
With in-house tube bending capabilities, Orscheln can design and manufacture tubes of various sizes for complex and straightforward routings alike.
No two engine or transmission ports are the same. That’s why Orscheln Products offers customized end fittings for use with various tube materials, both metal, and polymers, to meet your specific needs. When manufactured, we calibrate dipsticks to the tube, so your fluid level measurement will be repeatable and dependable.
5. Electronic Throttle Controls
Our electronic throttle pedals have both floor-mounted and suspended designs. Each delivers a precise signal that interacts with the engine’s electronic fuel management systems.
The fast-reacting pedals provide smooth driver operation and a durable, longer-life programmable Orscheln Products Sensor. Polymer components create a lightweight pedal, as much as half the weight of current pedals in the marketplace. Steel base plates are available upon request.
Our product assembly systems will save engineering and development time upfront and eliminate over a dozen parts for the OEM assembler. It also saves considerable time at the vehicle assembly line.
Orscheln has 25 plus years of experience producing electronic throttle controls for commercial on and off-highway equipment. This capability, along with our broad design skills, metal fabrication, and in-house test lab, makes our services a benefit to the development of newer Zero Emission vehicles.
The EV2 vernier control is hand-operated for precise, variable engine speed adjustment on electronically controlled stationary engines or from a remote operating position on mobile equipment. It uses a linear potentiometer to translate a mechanical position to an electrical signal to control the engine remotely.
6. Electronic Shift Controls
Orscheln Products designs and manufactures mechanical shift systems for automatic transmissions. We can provide the entire system or just components for both OEM applications and the aftermarket.
Shift levers are available in Side Push Button, T-Handle Release, and Top Push Button Release configurations. A shift “system” would consist of a shift control lever, a control cable, and a transmission connection kit.
Orscheln Products also offers a variety of lever-operated valve controls, from the traditional spring-centered valve control lever to heavy-duty levers in standard and push button, gated configuration. Also available, the conventional “dump body” style controls in both the rugged, T- release type “Felsted™ shifter” and the economic, side push-button release, NG shifter styles. Orscheln Products can provide optional mounting towers for these shifters in single, double, and triple configurations.
7. Aerospace controls
Orscheln Products has experience manufacturing resources dedicated to designing and producing aircraft and military controls. The applications for these cables call for precise tolerances, plus low slide forces and backlash, and our expertise in this field means you never have to worry whether you’re receiving products that meet your needs.
From initial design through prototype, certification, and production, we stand ready with an experienced staff to help you. Qualification testing is available through both our in-house facility and the use of outside certified laboratories.
Orscheln Products has extensive experience working with FAA-PMA assemblies and completing FAA and Company conformities. We have cable constructions that meet the requirements of FAR 23.1141 (2000°F flame test) and FAR 25.853 (vertical and horizontal burn tests), as well as experience completing development programs and validating them to meet MIL-STD-810 and RTCA DO-160 standards.
